Kathmandu: Summit Club on Magento 2
A loyalty programme that ships — and a team that can keep it.

The brief.
Kathmandu is a premier outdoor retailer across Australia and New Zealand. The ask was specific: integrate the Summit Club loyalty programme into Magento 2 — point accrual, tier recognition, member benefits — and bring the in-house developers along for the ride. Two deliverables, one engagement, sixteen weeks on the clock.
Approach.
I led the work with test-driven development as the spine of the codebase and pair programming as the shape of the handover. Every feature landed with tests, every pull request was walked through with an in-house engineer, and the knowledge transfer was structured around the code itself rather than slide decks. By the halfway mark, the Kathmandu team was reviewing my PRs; by the end they were opening their own.
What I shipped.
- 01Summit Club loyalty integration on Magento 2 — point accrual, tier recognition, member benefits surfaced through the customer account and checkout
- 02Bazaarvoice reviews platform installed and wired into the product and category pages
- 03Test-driven development across the loyalty codebase, landing 100% coverage on the pieces I owned
- 04Pair-programming sessions and structured training across a team of four in-house developers
- 05Architecture and maintenance documentation covering the loyalty flow, review integration and deployment process
- 06Code review workflow established for the in-house team so releases could continue after the engagement ended
Outcome.
Summit Club went live inside Magento 2 on schedule — the full sixteen-week engagement met every business requirement without a slipped milestone. Bazaarvoice reviews landed alongside it. More importantly, the Kathmandu developers picked up the codebase and kept shipping against it — the training was the deliverable that outlasted the project.
The lesson.
The best integration is one the client team can own the week after you leave. TDD and pair programming cost a little more in the sprint and save a lot in the year.
